Ben Shelton, a refreshing surprise semifinalist at the 2023 US Open

Rising American tennis star Ben Shelton has made history by becoming the youngest American man to reach a US Open semifinal since Andy Roddick in 2003.

Shelton, 21, has been in impressive form throughout the tournament, defeating several seeded players on his way to the last four.

In his quarterfinal match, Shelton defeated world number eight Casper Ruud in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2. It was a dominant performance from the young American, who controlled the match from start to finish.

Shelton will now face world number one Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals. Alcaraz is the heavy favorite, but Shelton will be hoping to continue his giant-killing run and reach the final.
